Integral optimization of spare parts inventories in systems with redundancies

چکیده
In this paper, we analyze spare parts supply for a system with a “k-outof-N” redundancy structure for key components, different standby policies (cold, warm and hot standby redundancy) and local spare parts inventories for sub-components. We assume multiple part types (sub-components) that fail randomly with exponentially distributed interfailure times. Due to the standby policies and the limited number of installed components, the total failure rate depends on the state of the system. Replacement times and stock replenishment times are also assumed to be exponentially distributed and depend on the part types. We present an exact method together with a simple and efficient approximation scheme for the evaluation of the system availability given certain stock levels. The proposed approximation is further used in a simple optimization heuristic to demonstrate how the total system costs can be reduced if the redundancy structure is optimized while taking Email addresses: [email protected] (Andrei Sleptchenko), [email protected] (Matthieu van der Heijden) Preprint submitted to Reliability Engineering & System Safety February 22, 2016 into account the local stock of the spare parts. The presented numerical results clearly show the importance of the local inventories with spares even in the systems with redundancies.

Optimization models for critical spare parts inventories - a reliability approach
In industries characterized by heavy utilization of equipment and machinery, such as mining, oil & gas, utilities, transportation, adequate stockholding of critical spare parts becomes essential. Insufficient stocks affect overall performance of physical assets, as lack of spares may result in gross penalties, lower availability or increased operational risks. On the other hand, oversized inven...
متن کاملClosed-loop Supply Chain Inventory-location Problem with Spare Parts in a Multi-Modal Repair Condition
In this paper, a closed-loop location-inventory problem for spare parts is presented. The proposed supply chain network includes two echelons, namely (1) distribution centers (DCs) and repairing centers (RCs) and (2) operational bases. Multiple spare parts are distributed among operational bases from distribution centers in the forward supply chain and failed spare parts from operational bases ...
متن کاملA new model for Assessment and Optimization of Number of Spare Transformers and their Locations in Distribution Systems
In this paper, a new model has been presented to determine the number of spare transformers and their locations for distribution stations. The number of spare transformers must be so that they need minimum investment. Furthermore, they must be sufficient for replacing with transformers that have been damaged. For this reason, in this paper a new purpose function has been presented to maximize p...

The issue of spare parts inventory management is emphasized in aspect of maintaining continuity of production and generated costs of maintaining inventory.
متن کاملConstraint Optimization and Feature-Based Model Construction for Reverse Engineering
Reverse engineering techniques can be used to aid in the manufacture of spare parts when original parts inventories are exhausted. For mechanical parts, this process involves sensing the geometry of an existing part, creating a geometric model of the part from the sensed data, and then passing this model to an appropriate CAD/CAM system for manufacturing. Sensing errors and the modeling demands...
